Hello, Science enthusiasts, today I am going to explain you about the process of generation of electricity with the uranium in nuclear power plants. We learn about the uranium as it was a radioactive material in our school or college.

We learn the elements and their structure in chemistry in our schools. There is a table called “Modern Periodic table”. This shows the decent alignment of all elements present in the earth in that table. This was designed by the “Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev” a Russian chemist.

He belonged to the fields of chemistry and physics. Dmitri Mendeleev is also known as the Father of the Periodic table. Mendeleev wrote a book called “Principles of Chemistry”. This classifies about all the elements based on their chemical properties.

As the topic was about the elements, till know we learn about it. Here in our daily life, you may see the Nuclear power stations. These Nuclear power stations will generate electricity for our daily use. You know that the “Uranium” is used as the fuel in those Nuclear power stations as the water in Hydroelectric and coal in Thermal power stations.

Did you think how they generate electricity from this nuclear power station using the Uranium? Don’t worry, am here to make you learn about this. Uranium nucler power plant

Uranium is a radioactive metal which is available in the earth. In the Uranium U-233, U-235 and U-238 are available in the form of Isotopes. Last two isotopes i.e.., U-235 & U-238 were avails naturally in the earth. In all of those U-233 and U-235 will participate in the nuclear fission. The neutrons were separated from these elements. We can also generate U-233 from the Thorium element. Plutonium 239 can be generated from the U-238.

Even though this Plutonium is not available on the earth naturally, it participates in the fission. The “Nuclear fission” means the element bombarded with the neutrons and form two or more small atoms.

The mass of the atoms formed after fission is less than the initial Uranium element mass. This little mass difference between them is known as the “Mass error”. sky view of uranium nuclear power plantAccording to the “Laws of relativity” which is proposed by the “Albert Einstein”, which was E=mc2. It means any change or difference in the mass is converted to some type of energy source. Here this energy is generated by the heat source.

This released heat is absorbed by the coolant present in the nuclear reactor. This heat absorbed by the coolant is again absorbed by the water in the very next step. Due to this heat, the water changes to the vaporized form. This generated water vapor is released on the turbines.

Finally:

Thus the turbines will generate this heat form of energy to the mechanical energy. As this turbine connected to the generator, the generator converts the mechanical energy to the electrical energy. Thus Electrical energy is generated.

If one atom of Uranium is bombarded with one neutron, then it produces some amount of heat energy and the new three neutrons. The two neutrons of these three were absorbed by the moderator in the nuclear reactor. If not due to this chain reaction, there is a chance of blast occur in the nuclear reactor. According to the new research, the huge amounts of uranium deposits are present in the Australia. nuclear power plant
