In 2022, MLB became the first major sports league to introduce a comprehensive responsible gambling program. In addition, the MLB is working with sportsbook operators to improve data and analytics to better identify suspicious betting activity.

NFL players are allowed to bet on non-NFL events in states that make it legal, but may not place bets while at team or league facilities or while on the road with their teams. This is a standard provision in every player contract, as well as the collective bargaining agreement.
