Official Poker Rulebook

An official poker rulebook is a handbook that specifies the rules for a poker game. This book can be used by anyone, but it cannot be sold for profit. The rules are intended to improve the game. The author supports the use of uniform poker rules, and applauds the work of the Tournament Director’s Association. Most rules in this book are compatible with those set forth by the TDA. However, some minor differences in wording may occur.

The poker rules and regulations are compiled by the professional Tournament Directors Association (PTDA), a group of poker professionals founded in 2001. The organization has more than 2,500 members from over sixty-three countries. Its members include managers of large live poker rooms, poker circuits, and independent tournaments. Its President is Jack Effel, the director of the WSOP.

The rules and regulations of a poker game include a code of conduct, which sets forth responsibilities and proper practices. Violations of the poker code of conduct can result in ejection, loss of poker chips, or a permanent ban. One particular violation is conspiring with another player. Other violations include offensive language, threats, and extreme body language. It is also forbidden to make physical contact with another player without their permission.

The first round of betting begins with the player who is to the left of the big blind. Depending on the amount of chips in the big blind, the player may fold, call, or raise. The betting rounds continue clockwise. The player can also raise his or her bet if no one else has.
