Official Poker Rules

Marcel Luske, a renowned Dutch poker professional, has been the main architect behind a set of official poker rules for international competitions. The resulting rules, known as FIDPA (Federation for International Determination of Poker Rules), are freely available and can be downloaded. Although the rules are not legally binding, they do outline the minimum requirements for poker tournaments and ensure that all games are fair.

Poker is a card game that can be played with two or five players. Players are dealt five community cards and two player cards. Depending on the number of cards in the hand, the player will have to make a poker hand that consists of at least two cards of the same suit. This is the foundation of poker.

In addition to official poker rules, there are also unwritten rules regarding player conduct and behavior. Generally, players should conduct themselves respectfully, and avoid making any unprofessional moves. Players should be aware of their surroundings and always keep their cards close to their sides. It is not acceptable to “splashing the pot,” as it causes confusion for the dealer, and it is also considered poor etiquette to throw cards.

After a round of betting, a player who has a higher hand than the one who has the lowest hand wins the pot. The next betting round begins with the person who has the small blind.
