The Official Poker Rules

The Robert’s Rules of Poker is a set of rules for playing poker. These rules are commonly used and widely copied. The only restriction is that you cannot sell the rulebook or give credit to the original authors. You may, however, use excerpts of the rules without any restriction. You may use the rulebook in your own establishment. Although it may be tempting to copy and paste the text of the book, you are not permitted to do so without permission.

The main aim of poker etiquette is to be as polite as possible. You must remember that you will probably spend several hours with the same opponents. Being polite and friendly will make your opponent’s life easier. It can also help you to extract monetary value. For example, angle shooting can be defined in several different ways. It’s an unethical move, but it has become widespread in poker. Regardless of the form, you must abide by the rules and respect your opponent’s space.

The professional Tournament Directors Association manages the rules and regulations for tournaments. It was founded in 2001 by poker players Matt Savage, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher and David Lamb. There are more than 2,500 members, including managers of independent tournaments, large live poker rooms, and circuits. They meet in a summit once every two years to review the rules of poker. During the summit, World Series of Poker Tournament Director Jack Effel sits on the board of the organization.
